A national nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of information and services to patients with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers, friends, and families. Every state has at least one local chapter. There are at least 200 chapters nationwide with local websites and libraries on site.

The National Council on the Aging (NCOA)
The NCOA is an association of organizations and individuals committed to promoting the dignity, self-determination, well being, and contribution of older people. It serves as a national resource for service providers and consumers. Special areas of interest are community-based programs including senior centers and adult day services.

The National Family Caregiver Association (NFCA)
NFCA is a national not-for-profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of the family caregiver through education support and advocacy. Services include a quarterly newsletter and a nationwide peer support network. Its members include family caregivers, their friends, and the professionals and institutions who support them.

Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral Center (ADEAR)
The center, sponsored by the National Institute on Aging, provides information and publications on Alzheimer’s disease for people with Alzheimer’s disease, their families, health professionals, and the public. It serves as a national resource for information on diagnosis, treatment issues, patient care, caregiver needs, long-term care, education, research, and ongoing programs.

The Eldercare Locator
This nationwide directory assistance service is designed to help older persons and caregivers locate local resources. They refer you to the appropriate information resources in your community such as the Area Agency on Aging, a statewide network of offices that can help with many issues related to the elderly and provide referrals.
