Diagnostic Imaging
A wide range of diagnostic imaging services are available and
are performed by certified
technologists in a warm and caring
environment. Diagnostic imaging procedures available include Xray,
mammography, ultrasound, Open MRI, nuclear medicine, bone
density, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography with a new, state of-the-art 16 slice CT scanner.
Caring About Your Well-being
The Imaging Departments at Stones River Hospital & DeKalb Community Hospital are more than a place to come for your imaging tests – we are caring professionals who want to help you toward a healthier future. We provide advanced diagnostic imaging tests and a staff of board-certified radiologists and licensed technologists who truly care about your well being.
Reliable Results
Our trained staff will do everything to ensure a confortable experience for you. We provide our patients with safe imaging procedures that produce accurate results.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive method used to render images of the inside of an object. It is primarily used in medical imaging to demonstrate pathological or other physiological alterations of living tissues. Stones River Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of the Hitachi AIRIS II Open MRI system. The new MRI features an open-air gantry with clinical capabilities that rival those of many high-field closed type systems. Sometimes, having an MRI can be difficult for patients who are in pain or are anxious about their medical condition. Traditional scans can be long, difficult procedures that cause feelings of anxiety, discomfort and claustrophobia. Our Open MRI features a large opening so that you never feel “closed in”, as you would be in other MRI machines.
General Radiography
General radiography uses X-rays to look deep inside the body and accurately access any conditions that may require further attention, or confirm your good health. With your safety the utmost concern, we use only the latest filmscreen combinations to optimize image quality, while minimizing radiation exposure. For most routine exams, same-day appointments are available.
Spiral CT or CAT Scan
(Computed Axial Tomography) is used to diagnose a wide variety of medical conditions. The scanner takes a circular X-ray and combined with computer technology produces cross sections of internal organs. Sometimes an oral and/or injected substance is used to enhance the contrast of the image. DeKalb Community Hospital is proud to announce the installation of a new Multi-Slice CT Scanner. The new scanner provides the latest, most innovative technology. It not only reduces radiation exposure to the patient – it also reduces the time taken to perform an exam and will allow the physician to receive the results in as little as 15 minutes.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a safe, painless and fast way to examine internal organs where high frequency sound waves are passed through the body and reflected back. It is used to examine soft tissues such as blood vessels, the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, kidneys, reproductive organs, heart and blood flow.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine imaging provides images of internal organs not possible with conventional Xray machines. In nuclear imaging, a radioactive compound is injected, swallowed, or inhaled and after a suitable amount of time, detected in the body using a special camera. The dose of radiation received from the radioisotope in a nuclear imaging procedure is usually comparable to that obtained in a dental X-ray.
Mammography
Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine the breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the diagnosis of breast disease in women. Mammograms are used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer in women experiencing no symptoms and to detect and diagnose breast disease in women experiencing symptoms such as a lump, pain or nipple discharge.
Bone Density
Bone densitometry is a test that can help tell if you have osteoporosis or are at risk for it. This simple, painless procedure uses a small amount of radiation to determine the bone density of the spine or hip. This test can also be used at intervals to determine the rate of bone loss.
